February 2013

I've had a very productive January.  5 new dresses, two quilts and 1 stitchery completed.

Here are the pics I promised from Nov 7th

Hearts in the right place.

This quilt 'Sweetheart Houses' by Shabby Fabrics was hand stitched using freezer paper applique technique.  This nine-month pattern took 4 weeks of solid stitching to do.  Needless to say not much else was done at home in that time.  It's all about priorities, right?

This little stitchery from Crabapple Hill may one day become a cushion.  Nearly finished.

18th Nov 2012

Here's another top I've pirated.  I purchased a cute top from Katies last week.  This is my version of it.  White embroidered cotton fabric with Guipure lace trim across the shoulders and at hem.

The original top pictured here in watermelon.

11th Nov 2012

Well I stepped out of The Cave for a couple of hours in the sun at Girgarre Farmers Market today.  Great crowd, the strawberries and cherries I purchased were delicious.  Then I had a very productive day creating.  I saw a top in a store in Melb a while back and thought I could make that.  Here's a pic from the ladies change room.  Too cheeky I know.

I decided I could make something similar.  So this is what I created.  I managed to draft the pattern using the block pattern that I created with  "The Pattern Drafter" as my starting point.  Added a flounce and voila, a top very similar to the one in the store. Oh and I saved over $100, used a 100% cotton voile fabric instead of hot sticky polyester. Yay, my skin will be happy.  This has been drafted and constructed in under 4 1/2 hours.  Much quicker than using a commercial pattern....And it fits.

07th Nov 2012

After nearly 2 weeks in which I've been otherwise entertained to say the least, I've finally finished drafting a top that didn't quite work out.  I've managed to save the design and change the shape of the top which now looks ok . I'll post a pic soon.  In the mean time, I'm also working on a little stitchery from Crabapple Hill, as well as a new quilt design of my own that I'm working on using freezer paper applique technique.  Will post pics for that soon too.

23rd Oct 2012

These little dresden plates were hand pieced with Sue Daley's English Paper Piecing papers.  Originally hand appliqued onto cream background and mounted onto canvas back in Feb this year, I thought they looked really bland.  Was time to revamp them.  Have unpicked the flowers with my best friend (the quick unpick)  and machine appliqued the flowers onto black quilter's muslin using Madiera clear thread.  I've used some assorted grosgrain ribbons for the stems, and then free motion quilted the grass using 3 different shades of rayon machine embroidery threads in greens, browns, and variegated.  Border is just a bit of ric rac.   Then have mounted it back onto canvas.  A huge difference and improvement on the original.

17th Oct 2012.

Another really quick quilt.  Have pieced this in a few hours and freehand quilting on my quilter.  New pattern has just been completed and on the shelves, kit now available too.

 15th Oct 2010

Doodle Bugs quilt finished.  Machine qppliqued.  Kit and pattern available now.

07th Oct 2012

I know this raspberry cheesecake couldn't have been made in "The Cave" , but the idea came from here.  After a few days hard work at the Elmore Field Days this week, I've had mum up here for the week helping, and now she's learning how to quilt on the quilting machine.  I think we deserve a little treat.   It was delicious.

01st Oct 2012

My sons Joseph and Luke, a couple of cool dudes. Love em heaps.  Such posers.

28th Sept 2012

Mum's many grandchildren.  A great time was had by all.

27th Sept 2012

Well with only 1 day to go until mum's 70th birthday, I've finally managed to get her memory quilt done.  Years in the planning, 2 weeks rushing to get photos organised,  printed onto fabric and machine pieced.  Even ditch quilted it on my Brother QC2000 (love my new machine)  Off to Melb now,

The two photos on the right of the quilt with children sitting on the fence  were taken in Germany on the Lake of Constance.  One in 1967 with my younger sister and I, the other was taken in 2000 by me with my twin sons Joseph and Luke.  We took a 2hr train journey to catch up with family still living in the area, and found the same spot to take the photo.

24th Sept 2012

What a job I've had trying to figure out how to make friendship bracelets.  Really should have had a 6 year old to teach me.  Just released, My Friendship Bracelet maker.  Will be demonstrationg it at Elmore Field Days in Oct.

16th Sept 2012

Have taken a break from the cave for the weekend.  Maria Opresnik from "The Pattern Drafter" is hosting a retreat at Bright.  I'm her slave for the weekend and enjoying every minute of it.  Wonderful to get away with some great ladies, good food, good wine,  an interesting little book shop, gift shops, quilt shops etc, and even catching up with a favourite old rep. Yes Graham, you're old. Thanks to Claire and Jenny for the great house and luxury apartment.  Thanks to Maria for the great food and teaching.  Oh and I've given myself a pat on the back for helping out.

12th Sept 2012

Have finally finished my Sweetheart Houses quilt.  This one is freezer paper applique.  This one has been hand stitched over 4 weeks,   Off to Wendy at Gammill Girl Quilting for some professional custom quilting.  Quilting for this one is beyond my capabilities.

08th Sept 2012

This table runner is a mystery project for our Wednesday night ladies.  Shhh don't tell them. 3 pieces of fabric stitched together with only 1 seam. Should be fun.

02nd Sept 2012

Have done a little more tweaking in the "Girl's Cave" with the addition of more shelving, thread racks  storage boxes etc.

My first project finally done.  Drafted the pattern for this top in about half an hour using "The Pattern Drafter" and made it up in a few hours.   It's so nice having all my tools and toys in the one place.  I can see I'll be spending alot more time out here.

30th Aug 2012

With most of the boys having moved out, and the last party for a couple more years, I've taken over the boy's rumpus room.  Gone are the playstations, video games and TV's.  Hello machines and quilting supplies.  Finally all my toys in one place.
